Rory & Rose meet with Dawn Butler

Rory & Rose both went down to London (January 2010) to meet with Dawn Butler and discuss a campaign centred around young people's involvement in activities and discussion around citizenship.
Dawn Butler is the minister for Young Citizens and Youth Engagement, and was highly impressed with both Rory & Rose.
They are now looking at our two young advisors returning to London, and visiting the house of commons to host a debate there!
We will keep you posted on how this goes!

Quality Assurance Testing of Heywood Provision

The Young Advisors are in the process of creating a survey which can be used to do Quality Assurance testing on local services within Heywood. They plan to do this as "Mystery Shoppers" evaluating the services and submitting their findings on how the services treated them as young people.

National Empowerment Partnership

Paige accompanied Gary and Kev from the Young Advisors Charity to London to help their bid for funding from the National Empowerment partnership. They were successful in securing £60,000 (thanks to Paige!) for various National Young Advisor Projects to do work for the Community Development Foundation.
The work was:
* Deliver 2-3 focus groups to engaging 20 different young people in your local area asking them about how they do, or don’t, get involved in their community during December and send results to the YA Charity.
* Support the YA Charity to deliver training for 1 day between January and March
* Get involved in some filming work for 1 day to produce video guides between February and April. The topics of each video guide will be informed through the focus groups and surveys, and share brief learning guides on the areas that will offer viewers practical information to empower and engage young people.
This work is ongoing - so stay tuned to hear how it goes!

Sports Culture Leisure Village Consultation

* In mid 2008 Heywood Young Advisors were invited to attend a Sports Culture and Leisure Village meeting held at the Township Office regarding the plans and architecture of the youth space available inside and outside of the new sports complex being built in Heywood.
* From this the Young Advisors were then appointed to collect research about what young people wanted and would use, to be put into these spaces. They visited other areas to see what they had in their Sports Centres and also consulted with the Chidlren & Young People's Forum to see about any ideas they too had for the rooms.
* They then accompanied the Children & Young People's Forum to a number of sites to gather their feedback on the SHOKK gyms.
* This work is ongoing as the building works are currently in their early stages.
Nadia is now the vice-chair of the Sports Culture Leisure Village Steering Group too!

Estate Football

This is a project we are looking at running in the new year. We are looking at using football pitches on 3 estates/areas of Heywood. We are hoping at getting 5-a-side teams from the different areas to play each other; promoting community integration. The winners of the tournament will receive a prize.
